Review: Grindtech GrindClean Zirconia Abrasive Flap Disc
Grindtech GrindClean Flap Disc: The Introduction
Whether you’re a weekend “DIYer” or a full-time metal fabricator, you need a good supply of tools and consumables that can help you finish your job with ease.
Essentially, there are a lot of workshop consumables on the market today that you can purchase and add to your space: from cutting fluids and adhesives, to sealants and hose kits. But if you ask me, perhaps the most commonly used of them are the so-called flap discs. Available in different makes, this type of abrasives is the basic product in grinding and finishing of welds. But its uses don’t just end there. Most of the time, it is also utilised for rust removal, for deburring, and even for snagging. Now, in today’s review, I will be sharing with you a good flap disc brand, just in case you’re looking for one to purchase for your workshop. The brand is the GrindClean Flap Disc from Grindtech.
Grindtech GrindClean Flap Disc: Key Features
Personally, Grindtech is my go-to brand when it comes to high-quality workshop consumables. As you can remember, I’ve even reviewed one of their products before, the StripClean Coating Removal Discs. This abrasive is quite similar to the GrindClean, which is my subject for today, in terms of strength. Both of them are well known in the metal finishing sector for their consistency and performance. Impressively, they carry this premium quality German make that not only ensures long life but guarantees exceptional performance as well.
Upon testing the GrindClean Flap Disc, all I can say is that it’s truly made for tough industrial applications. What I loved most about it is the fact that it combines a zirconia grit construction and compressed flaps. These enable it to produce high levels of stock removal while exerting less pressure. Additionally, I was also in awe with its convex design. Such ergonomic built makes it the ideal flap disc for weld preparation and removal, bevelling, finishing, coating and rust removal, and deburring. In terms of speed, it can operate from 12000 – 15000 RPM.
When it comes to versatility, these GrindClean flap discs won’t also disappoint. What probably sets them apart from the rest is that they can do finishing and grinding in just one disc. Particularly, they promise to deliver excellent results on stainless steel, steel, and aluminum. Also, apart from being versatile, this Grindtech product is very user-friendly, too. It delivers superb comfort and lesser noise if I am to compare it to rigid grinding discs that are available on the market. It is safe to use as well, given that it does conform to the ISO 9001 standards.

Grindtech GrindClean Flap Disc: The Verdict
As you can see, the Grindtech GrindClean Flap Disc boasts a host of great features that can help you get the best results out of every metal fabrication that you handle. Basing from my test, I find it quite similar to the StripClean Coating Removal Discs variant, but with higher levels of quality and strength.
What I personally loved about it though is that it can tackle various applications. Integrating a German abrasive flap material and a zirconia grit design, it can do weld preparation, bevelling, finishing, grinding, and rust and scale removal through the use of either a portable electric or an air angle grinder. The product is available in different sizes, from 100mm(4″) to 125mm(5″), ensuring you that there’s a particular variant suitable for the job at hand.
